SCOTT D. GATTEY (firstname.lastname@example.org) founded The Gattey Law Office in 2007. We have always been located in the heart of the Silicon Valley.
Before starting his own firm, Mr. Gattey served as a Director of Legal Affairs at Siebel Systems. At Siebel, Mr. Gattey managed worldwide litigation and disputes and provided counseling to management in the areas of employment, intellectual property, commercial contract, and credit and collections. Because of Siebel’s size, Mr. Gattey routinely handled over 40-50 active litigation matters worldwide at any given time. Mr. Gattey’s duties at Siebel also included conducting due diligence in connection with acquisitions and representing Siebel’s interests in front of government agencies, including the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice. After Siebel was acquired by Oracle in March 2006, Mr. Gattey was invited to join Oracle to assist in the integration of the two companies. Prior to joining Oracle, Mr. Gattey reported to Siebel’s Senior Vice-President and General Counsel.
Mr. Gattey was recruited to join Siebel in 2002 from Fenwick & West, LLP, a leading Silicon Valley law firm specializing in representing emerging and established high-technology companies. Mr. Gattey’s tenure with Fenwick included the “dot-com” years (1998 through 2002), during which he advised Internet and other technology companies in establishing and aggressively protecting their intellectual property.
At Fenwick, Mr. Gattey not only had significant litigation and counseling experience in the intellectual property area, but he also handled numerous employment matters nationwide. Mr. Gattey has always been a strong advocate of the proactive implementation of policies, procedures and training. He has seen such proactive approaches assist clients in, among other things, protecting the value of their intellectual assets and complying with California’s onerous employment laws. Mr. Gattey is convinced that taking a proactive approach results in significant cost savings in the long run, and also positions emerging companies as more attractive acquisition targets.
Before joining Fenwick & West, Mr. Gattey was an associate at Thelen, Reid & Priest, where he had a broad-based litigation and counseling practice that focused on the areas of intellectual property, employment, commercial contract, environmental and real estate. While at Thelen, Reid & Priest, Mr. Gattey was asked by Oracle Corporation to serve as an on-site licensing attorney to assist Oracle in the negotiation of quarter-end deals.
Mr. Gattey received his Bachelor of Sciences Degree (cum laude) from Santa Clara University. He studied for a semester in London, taking classes at the London School of Economics and Political Affairs (“LSE”). Mr. Gattey also worked in Washington, D.C. on the staff of Representative Pete Stark, the Chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health. Mr. Gattey received his Juris Doctorate degree from the Santa Clara University School of Law in 1995. While in law school, he was in the top of his class and served as an extern to the Hon. Eugene F. Lynch of the United States District Court in San Francisco. Mr. Gattey also worked during law school as a law clerk at the firm of Matteoni, Saxe and Nanda.
Mr. Gattey has lectured on intellectual property and employment law topics, and is a contributor to California State Bar Magazine. Mr. Gattey is a member of several professional affiliations and is an active member of the California State Bar. In his free time, Mr. Gattey enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.
